Ich habe jetzt in Dortmund den “kalten Frühling” gemischt. Sendetermin
noch nicht klar. Anderthalb Minuten lang “Sirens”, 3o Sekunden davon richtig im
Vordergrund. Nochmal danke. Konnte mich nicht satthören daran.

…Vom Lebensraum Großstadt scheinen auch die ungleich komplexeren Kompositionen von Heiner Rennebaum, der mit seinem „Bonobo Club” eine bimediale Performance aus Livemusik und Videos präsentiert, inspiriert zu sein.

…Dem Club der promisken Affen fehlt es zu keinem Zeitpunkt an musikalischer Geschlossenheit. Roland Peil ergänzt als Schlagzeuger wie als Perkussionist ideal die von Bernd Renn, der übrigens auch für den exzellenten Sound auf dem Platz verantwortlich war, eingespielten Samples. Dramaturgisch auf den Punkt gesetzte Akzente liefert auch Trompeter Thomas Heberer und Sängerin Inga Lühning trifft den Ton zwischen verhaltener Laszivität und Melancholie.

Der Bonobo-Affe blickt gelassen in die Ferne. Dem Menschen ähnlich, aber im Vergleich zu ihm ein friedlicher Zeitgenosse, kann er die Welt auf sich zukommen lassen. Sein Bild gibt dem Cover eine Prise rätselhaften Flairs, und sein Name verhilft dem Projekt zu einem kryptisch postmodernen Titel. Denn eigentlich hat der afrikanische Schimpanse kaum etwas mit der Musik des Bonobo Clubs zu tun. Er diente dem Düsseldorfer Klangtüftler und Studiomusiker Heiner Rennebaum lediglich als Chiffre für weit schweifende akustische Assoziationen.
Gemeinsam mit zwei Hand voll kompetenter Kollegen widmet er sich der individuell geprägten Klangfusion lange Zeit verschmähter Stilpartikel. Rennebaum gräbt Sounds wieder aus, die seit dem Rückzug aus dem Geschäft von Jazzrock-Haudegen wie Jan Ackerman als verschollen galten. Da sägen angezerrte Gitarrenlinien Kanten in den Klangraum und bekommen durch sphärische Keyboardornamente einen ätherisch-abgespacten Charakter. Sie verbinden sich mit schweren Drumbeats aus der Computer-Trickkiste, begnügen sich jedoch nicht damit, die Errungenschaften der DJ-Kollegen zu zitieren. Denn Bonobo Club montiert Erwartungshaltungen, verbindet country-bluesige Andeutungen mit pathetischen Perkussioneinlagen, schleudert Samples in den Groove und würzt ihn mal mit knappen Rap-Lyrics, mal mit rockigen Improvisationen. Das Album konstruiert auf diese Weise ein irritierendes Miteinander stilistischer Gegensätzlichkeiten. Das ist weder Jazz noch Rock, weder Dance noch Pop. Umso besser.

Vergangenes Jahr produzierte der Düsseldorfer Komponist, Gitarrist und Arrangeur Heiner Rennebaum seinen groovelastigen “Bonobo Club” mit über einem Dutzend namhafter Musiker der kölnisch-westfälischen Szene. Eine sanfte Stimmung liegt über den sechs Stücken des Albums, in denen Rennebaum elektronische Sounds und polyrhythmische Puzzleteilchen, zurückgenommene Samples und akustische Stimmen auf eigenwillige Weise kombiniert. Stilistisch spielt vieles rein: Rap, Jazz, spanische Gitarrenmusik, eine swingende Nummer stimmt fast nostalgisch, spacige Klänge, die aus dem endlosen Raum auftauchen und dort wieder verschwinden. Dennoch wirkt die Musik weder überfrachtet noch zusammengewürfelt. Vielmehr vermittelt sie ein homogenes Bild, zu dem neben Grooves auch ein feines selbstironisches Lächeln im Mundwinkel gehört.
